The Temple of Ramses III was used into Roman Times and later given the name "Medinet Habu" by the early Christians. The Romans embellished the Temple and the Christians built a church there. The site began as the Small Temple of Hatshepsut and Tutmose III to the near north, which housed the Sacred Bark and consisted of several decorated King’s chambers. To these surroundings Ramses III added his great and magnificent Mortuary Temple. A small Sacred Lake and three walk down Sacred Wells surround the Temple.
